Music and more with Adam Nutter

Fans of The Music know the name Jim Abbiss very well. He is responsible for producing the epic debut album. On this episode of Music and more, Adam and Pete welcome Jim Abbiss to share his experiences trying to capture the energy of this young band’s jams and convert them into songs for an album. The rest as they say is history. Jim went on to produce debut albums from Kasabean, the Artic Monkeys and Adele to name a few but reminisces on the dying art of producing with bands all together in one studio.

This week on Music and more Adam and Pete welcome founding member of the Kaiser Chiefs, and now solo artist, song writer and podcast extraordinaire Nick Hodgson. Nick shares his experience as a Kaiser Chief, why he left the band and what he’s up to these days. Enjoy!

Last week on Music and more we welcomed The Music to walk through side one of their debut album. (If you haven’t heard episode 19, be sure to listen to that first) This week we continue the review, covering side 2 and the hidden track. This album review was a very nostalgic experience for the band and may have even inspired next year’s Temple Newsam setlist. We look forward to reviewing the other albums and EPs in future episodes. 

Twenty years ago four young lads from Kippax released their debut album, The Music. Just going through the track list it’s difficult to label what exactly this band was about.  They’ve been described as Indie Rock, infused with drum and bass, Led Zeppelin, Stone Roses, and touch of Rage Against the Machine for good measure.  No matter who you think they sound like, the songs on this debut album are timeless and still played in heavy rotation 20 years later. This week on Music and more, we welcome The Music for a full review of their debut album.

This week on the podcast Adam and Pete discuss topics ranging from the rescheduling of the reunion show, the increasingly popular Patron live streams, plus reflecting on the podcast in general up till now.

Throughout the 20th century, record labels were the dominant force behind the most successful artists. Hut Records, a subsidiary of Virgin, was responsible for bands like Smashing Pumpkins, The Verve, Placebo, Embrace, and of course The Music just to name a few. Before long, the internet, for better or worse, radically changed the music game. This week on Music and more, Adam and Pete welcome former Hut Records label manager David Boyd to discuss the early days at Hut, his involvement with various bands and the part he played in The Music’s epic debut album.

Fans of The Music are probably familiar with Charlatan’s front man Tim Burgess. They may also be aware of the wildly popular Tim’s Listening Parties on Twitter which is where the lads reunited after a decade to discuss the first The Music album. It’s no secret that Tim has been a huge supporter of the Music from the beginning and still to this day. This week on Music and more, Adam and Pete are pleased to welcome Tim Burgess to reminisce the early days and catch up on his latest projects.   

There is an entire world behind the actual music that we all love; managers, producers, editors, and press to name a few. This week on the Music and more podcast, Adam and Pete welcome Embrace guitarist Rik McNamara to share some of his best and worst experiences being in a major band. As an added bonus, Rik not only shared managers with The Music, but also recording studios. Even more interesting to fans, he also produced a plethora of The Music B-sides. This weeks episode is a friendly chat between close friends. Enjoy!

On this weeks episode Adam and Pete catch up with Will Jackson. A great friend of The Music. Will is also behind all of The Music's early recordings, including the Fierce Panda Take the long road. The bands practice room was built in the store room of Will Jacksons Soundworks studios. Will also did the mix for the recording of live at the blank canvas. Overall Will was a very important part of the development of the band and always a great influence. It's great to have him on the podcast. Enjoy.
